-  #1  On 04-Sep-1964, Piniella pinch-ran for Orioles pitcher Robin Roberts.

-  #2  On 08-Apr-1969, he hit a double off the Twins’ Tom Hall in the first at-bat in the history of the Kansas City Royals.  After the 1967 season Kansas City lost the A’s to Oakland & were awarded the Royals expansion team.

Hint: #3  A foundation created in his honor is helping young athletes succeed.

A.  DEL WILBER  [SABR Bio]

-  Ans.  Named interim manager after impetuous Texas owner Bob Short fired Whitey Herzog, Wilber guided the Rangers to a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over OAK on 07-Sep-1973.  HOWEVER… as it turns out, 4 years later Eddie Stanky also became an undefeated Rangers manager: 1-0.  He left the Univ of South Alabama to take over from the fired Frank Lucchesi.  After one game, 22-Jun-1977, he decided he didn’t like it and returned Alabama.

-  #1  Perfect game:  27-Aug-1951(2).  3 pitches, 3 swings, 3 HR.  (Also credited with 3 runs & 3 RBI.)
