-  #2  Bench often states that working in the cotton field to help his family taught him the value of hard work and perseverance and directly influenced his approach to baseball.

-  #2  On 13-Jun-1999 in Atlanta, 38-year-old Cal embarrassed the vaunted pitching of the NL East champion Braves with 2 HR, a double & 3 singles off 5 different pitchers as BAL prevailed 22-1.  A very good day.
