-  He had been a promising Yankee farmhand at 3 minor-league levels, but his promotion to The Bigs was thwarted by the presence of Lou Gehrig.  McQuinn eventually found success with the Browns.  Near the end of his career, he caught on with NYY, rebounded with a .304, 13 HR, 80 RBI season and helped lead them to the 1947 World Series Championship.
