Q.  Who was the MVP of the World Series where Joe Carter hit the home run of a lifetime?

Hint: #1           He set the record by getting five hits in a single World Series game.

Hint: #2           He only had to go fer a handful of minor league games for the Bees before being called up to the majors, but only played two games for the Buzz.

Ans.     1993 WS.  Molitor was the 6th G’s winning run.  He was on 1st when Carter homered.

-  #1     5 H - 1982 WS, G 1, w/MIL.  Since tied by Albert Pujols.

-  #2     After playing for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, he was assigned to the A level Burlington Bees of the Midwest League.  His final two minor-league games of his professional career were for the AAA Salt Lake City Buzz (Formerly the Bees) in the Pacific Coast League.  Molitor played two rehab games for the Buzz on July 13 & 14, 1998, getting 5 hits in 10 ABs before returning to The Bigs.

-   Born in Troy, Illinois.  Won the 1958 CYA, the 3rd one ever awarded.

-   #2   In 247⅓ IP for BAL in 1954, Turley walked 181 and gave up 178 H.  In 246⅔ IP for NYY in 1955, he walked 177, giving up 168 H.

-   #3   Kilroy had 513 K in 68 G for the Orioles in 1886 in the AA.  Turley led the AL in 1954 pitching for BAL of the AL w/185 K in 35 G.  Sadie McMahon’s 291 K led the AA in 1890.  However, only 66 of them were while playing for BAL.

-   #1   On 28-Aug-1884, the first 9 Cleveland Blues went down on strikes. Perhaps because the 7th CLV strikeout victim reached first base on a passed ball, the Welch record went unrecognized until after his death in 1941.

-   #2   He did like beer, however, and was even known to write odes to it.

-   Ans.     The single-season record of 57, set by Thigpen in 1990 and tied by Diaz in 2018.  However, it had previously been shattered in 2008 by Francisco Rodriguez w/62.

-   #1   Thigpen played for Mississippi State at the same time as Rafael Palmeiro, Will Clark & Jeff Brantley.  MLB years = 9, 20, 15, 14.

-   #2   Toronto’s Exhibition Stadium closed for good to baseball 28-May-1989.

A. DEL CRANDALL  [SABR Bio]  An 11-time All-Star, Crandall was the last living player to appear in a game for the Boston Braves.

-   Ans.     No-hitters on 12-Jun-1954 by Jim Wilson; on 18-Aug-1960 by Lew Burdette; and on 16-Sep-1960 by Warren Spahn.  Born in the city of Ontario, California.

-   #1   All are alumni of Fullerton Union HS, Fullerton, California.

-   #2   On that date, starters Juan Marichal & Warren Spahn each went the distance.  So did their catchers, Crandall and Ed Bailey.

-   #3   Played with Aaron on MLN 1954-63.  Managed Aaron on MIL in 1975.
